I first walked into digital photography thinking this class would probably be easy and not too much work. Then we started working on projects and I no longer thought that this class was going to be as simple as I once thought. One of our first projects was taking notes and then photos about photo compositions. I had some experience with this from the multimedia class I took in middle school but the standard for this class and the photos we took was much higher. The photos I took from these compositions are definitely the worst ones I took this year and I am glad I learned how to take better photos. Examples below. Over the course of the trimester I started to get better at the photoshop assignments and the weekly photo assignments. My grade was starting to reflect the quality of the photos I was turning in and I wanted to change that so I started trying harder to get better photos and put in more effort. I also was trying to find was to do my photoshop assignments the best that I could and earn full points. The quality of my photos went up and so did my grade. In the middle of the tri I started to look forward to the class and enjoyed taking the photos rather than seeing it as a chore. Examples below. Overall, I changed a lot from the beginning to end of this class. I walked in thinking it would be easy and I realized it was not all that easy. I started working harder in order to save my grade. And finally, I actually ended up liking this class. I faced challenges with taking the weekly photo assignments and with some of the photoshop assignments, and others were easier and more fun for me. All in all, I learned a lot of interesting stuff and computer tools from this class and I am glad I took it.
Some of my projects are below.

For this assignment we had to find photos and a word and portray it on a canvas. We had to put the word and the definition on our photoshop assignment and then add photos that depict the word we chose. For this assignment I learned how to use too I already knew about in a different way. for example the bucket tool used to fill a background and putting words onto my assignment. I really enjoyed being able to chose and word and then chose my own photos to describe the words.
For this assignment we had to create 3 puns and make them in photoshop. Then we had to make a canvas and put them all in line on the canvas. While doing this assignment I learned how to resize an image and how to make a canvas the correct size. The hardest part of this assignment was thinking of original puns to do but other than that it was pretty easy. I really liked doing this assignment and learning the new tools.
For this assignment I chose macro. I chose this because of the flowers my grandparents brought me and the changing colors outside. Best Photo No EditNo EditEditedWhile doing this macro assignment I learned how I can better position the camera and how close to get to get the effect of the plant or thing I was photographing. I really liked capturing pictures of these plants up close and giving myself a new perspective of them. I would continue to take more macro photos in the future.
For this assignment we had to take a photo of a certain area with nobody in it in order for the assignment to work. Then we had to take pictures of someone in multiple different places within that same area to create multiple people in one photo. I really enjoyed this assignment and thought it was fun. I did not find it too difficult but I enjoyed using a new tool and seeing what it can do for something different. I learned to use the lasso tool and how to use the mask tool better. I really liked creating this project.
For this weeks assignment I chose to do open with a fall theme. I chose fall because of the season we are currently in obviously and because I love the fall colors and the fallen leaves. Throughout doing this assignment I learned how to find the best areas to take good and pleasing photos. I found the best spots are places that have a lot of colorful trees or fallen leaves, and just in general nature area with limited buildings so that the background is more fall like. I really enjoyed capturing the fall season in this assignment. No EditFor this portrait assignment we were challenged to put two photos side by side, one a studio photo and one and one on a blank background. I learned how to position of camera to take the best portrait that showed a good amount of the person and did not have too much head space. This project was fun to learn and see how to take better portraits with different backgrounds than you normally would have access to. One challenge I had was making the white framing around the photos but once I got it I could definitely do it again. I really enjoyed learning all of the new steps that go into portrait photos.
For this assignment we were instructed to find photoshop tutorials and attempt them ourselves. One of the tutorials I chose to do was the aquarium in a lightbulb assignment. There were many different steps I had to take on photoshop to achieve this, some things I had to do was add a photo that looked underwater and add it onto the lightbulb but use tools to make it behind the bulb and not onto, I also had to remove the inside parts of the lightbulb to that it was clear and would look better when the ocean and fish were added. I also did the transparent clothes tutorial. For this tutorial I had to learn new steps and tools in photoshop that I had never used before, for example I had to make the shirt transparent but then still give off the effect that there is still a shirt there and not just a head and arms. I really enjoyed being able to choose what assignment we wanted to do and had fun learning the new tools and techniques.
For this weeks photo assignment I chose to do Black & White photos. while shooting these photos I tried to look for things and backgrounds I thought would look best in the black & white effect. How I did this was thinking of places around my house that had relatively neutral colors, such as my den, but also different patterns so that it would look more interesting in black & white rather than just a plain object and a plain background. I learned that i think neutrals look best with a black & white effect so that it does not look too far off from the original colors but it puts a spin on the normal colored picture. I had a lot of fun trying to capture things that I thought would look best with this effect!
